War Stories at the Hawthorns Braintree
Many incredible war stories have been told over the years, and the Hawthorns Braintree is fortunate to have had some of these told to fellow residents and local community members by resident Joe Sweeney. Joe came to live at the Hawthorns Braintree in September 2022 and began a series of War Stories talks in November 2022. He felt these stories needed to be shared, with a view to publishing them one day. Often, they are personal experiences, or an account related to another individual.
Residents at the Hawthorns have taken part in 20 stories so far, with Joe leading the talk and encouraging others to share their thoughts and memories. Currently, War Stories talks are held at the Hawthorns every two months. Plans are in place to expand the outreach to members of the local community, and the younger generations at nearby schools.
